WP Sponsorship Deal
The Western Province Chairman is priviledged to announce the sponsorship package that Fishmonger Restaurant has offered WP. The performance-based sponsorship for one year, renewable for three years gives WP the financial means to run a contest every month of the year! Fishmonger team-kit will also be presented to the top 20 WP Waveski surfers for the 2000 World Series to be held in South Africa during June and July.
WP will also be looking to the future and proposals for the hosting of SA Champs in Cape Town next year - The Champions are back on the road to the top!

5 March 2000
The contest started at 08h30 after a short welcome from the new WP Chairman Dave Kennett. The contest was the first in the Fishmonger Series of monthly contest and is the first of three planned closed trials for the WP nominations for the 2000 National Trials. Surf conditions on the preferred Atlantic seaboard were absolutely flat and it was fortunate that a 3-4 foot wave in windless conditions was found at Surfer's Corner in Muizenberg.
A good turn-out of riders, including 5 new members, ensured an enjoyable atmosphere which was further improved by the arrival of the sponsor with platters of breakfast and a large coolbox of colddrinks to cool down the already sunburnt competitors and judges.
The good fortune continued and conditions held up until the final which was subjected to a light crosswind. The hightide during the final had riders surfing in amongst enthusiastic swimmers and boogy-boarders and watched by a crowded beach, we were fortunate that only one injury occurred.

Development Finalists: Pieter Hennop, Jacques Bartie and Dennis Hammond
A Development Final was held prior to the Open Final and our newest riders were given a chance to surf it up for the judges without the hotties hassling them. Jacques Bartie was the winner of this final and he and the other finalists were the receivers of a small cash prize and discount vouchers for Fishmongers Restaurant.
The contest was run by Contest-Director Pierre Slabber who was assisted by the WP committee.
